I use it to wake a network server. I understand that whatever you are waking up has to respond to a Magic Packet so may have to adjust some settings on the LAN connection card if needed. I didn't have to as the server card was already set to respond to Magic Packets. Very basic, no setting to do this over WAN, can only give a local ip, no public ip and speciify port numbers, etc. Wakes an Ethernet card from a sleep state within a LAN.
